The Cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi Has Been Revealed

Have you heard? On Monday, Star Wars announced the cast for the special Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This cast looks amazing! What makes this cast so exciting? Let’s talk about it!

We knew Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen were retuning as Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader. They were announced in December when the show was announced. That does not make this moment any less exciting. It’s happening! Can.not.wait to see the rivalry between these two characters in this era of Star Wars. Who will have the high ground?

As you scan the photo released by Disney/Star Wars and look at each box, you see lots of familiar faces. And you see lots of diversity! This is another step in the right direction for being more inclusive in entertainment.

Two familiar faces among the cast are Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars and Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars. We met these actors in these roles at the end of Revenge of the Sith when Obi-Wan delivers a baby Luke to them on Tatooine. Seeing them on the cast list makes me wonder if we will also see a 10-year-old Luke. I hope so.

The rest of the cast is a mystery as to who they will play in this special series. Here’s what we know about the actors.

Moses Ingram was most recently seen on the Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit as the sassy teen, Jolene, in the orphanage who befriends the main character, Beth. Moses was quite the scene stealer next the youngest version of Beth.

Kumail Nanjiani is very funny and witty in his roles. He was recently seen in Netflix’s Lovebirds. I would expect whoever he plays to be comedic. Maybe not! Maybe, he’ll play a Jedi or voice a non-human being. That might be cool!

Indira Varma is best known to me as Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones. We could also call her the wife of The Mandalorian, Pedro Pascal’s Oberyn Martell on GoT. We can only hope for a reunion for these two on this program.

Rupert Friend was a regular on the series, Homeland. He looked quite differently than the photo released by Star Wars. He also played Prince Albert in Young Victoria. Something about those sideburns on Prince Albert makes me think of the Empire.

O’Shea Jackson Jr. is probably best known as the son of Ice Cube. He played his father in the move about the group, NWA. He was also in the last Godzilla movie so we know he can do sci-fi and action. This could be a great way to break away from his Ice Cube image.

Sung Kang is well known from the Fast and the Furious franchise playing Han. He was also a part of the cast of Raya and the Last Dragon. I am not personally into the Fast and the Furious franchise but I know seeing him here is exciting for fans.

Simone Kessell is best known to me from the TV show, The Crossing. She has been most recently seen on the show, The Reckoning. On The Crossing she was a bit of a militant. Maybe she will play a character similar to Fennec on The Mandalorian.

The last person on the cast release photo made me squeal! Benny Safdie! He is probably better known as a director but he’s done plenty of acting. He often works with his brother Josh Safdie. If you want to see them in action go watch the movie, Good Time. He is brilliant in that film! Perhaps he will get to direct an episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi!

Currently, each of these new cast members are listed on IMDB as being in one episode only. Most likely, this will change as episodes release. That happened with The Mandalorian. It’s all a mystery at this point but still so promising!

Who are you most excited to see in the cast list?
