Featuring Anna, Jamie, Jennie, Lauren, Lindsay, Nessa, Patty, Staci, and edited by Liv
The Project Stardust team has decided to come together to have a roundtable after each episode of The Bad Batch! Each week we will be discussing the things we liked and the questions we have about this episode. In preparation for this new series, we watched the Bad Batch Arc of The Clone Wars season 7, and most excitingly, some of us were brand new to The Clone Wars! In the coming weeks, we will be discussing the things we liked and the questions we have about each episode. This week, this group made up of both Clone Wars veterans and more recent fans of Clone Force 99 will be tackling episode 4 of The Bad Batch. As such, there are spoilers—if you haven’t watched the episode yet, come back here once you have!
One Thing We Loved
Anna: OMG IT’S FENNEC!!!!! Morally gray characters are my favorite, and getting to see the bounty hunter side of Fennec was really a delight for me. I was really thrilled to see her go toe to toe with Hunter and Omega. This has been my favorite episode since the premiere.
Jennie: I’m torn between two loves this week! I loved having Fennec in the episode and getting to see more of her story. It’s great character building and gives more insight into who she is, not only for this series, but for The Mandalorian and the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett as well. The other thing I loved in this episode was Clink, the adorable wobbly droid. We need more of him please!
Lauren: You love to see a baddie do her thing. Fennec Shand in all her glory! Loved her in the whole action sequence where she’s chasing down Omega. She is nothing if not a multitasker. So skilled. Such a force to be reckoned with. I am so glad she is around for longer than one episode and seems to have a really big role to play in this series.
Lindsay: One of the most exciting parts about Star Wars for me is how everything is interconnected, even with an expansive galaxy far, far away, so I loved seeing Fennec make her appearance, even though it was for nefarious reasons (at least from my perspective with what we know right now)!
Nessa: I liked seeing even more of the dynamics between the Bad Batch boys, particularly the partnering of Tech & Wrecker and Hunter & Echo. I’ve been interested in seeing more about how Echo fits into the dynamic of the Bad Batch, particularly since he’s a new member and the others have emphasized how new he is. This episode let us see a little more about how Echo and Hunter interact and took that extra step to solidify how Echo has become one of the Bad Batch boys. On top of that, watching Wrecker and Tech interact is ALWAYS a treat.
Staci: I loved the chase scene in this episode. It gave me all kinds of prequel feels with the speeders and the falling off of stuff and being caught mid fall. I thought we were about to lose Omega several times only to see her saved by something or someone. Even the music and sound effects were on point.
One Thing We Did Not Love
Anna: CAN WE STOP HITTING WRECKER IN THE HEAD PLEASE. I wish the betrayal by the inspector at the port had been less predictable, as well.
Jennie: This episode gave us more questions than answers, especially in regard to Omega. While I don’t mind some mystery and suspense, the entire episode felt like a giant tease.
Lauren: For as much action as there was, not a lot really happened in this episode. Sometimes when I feel that way, something happens later in the series that makes me feel differently so I hope that’s the case here. Lots of fun introductions in this episode, including the super cute droid, Clink, so I can’t complain too much. If pressed, I would rank this episode last of the 4 that we’ve seen. It was still fun though!
Lindsay: Honestly this episode had so much action and I was ON EDGE. I know this is probably also a good thing, but my anxiety was on full blast. I just wanted everyone to be safe, and Omega hanging on for dear life doesn’t easily lend to that. Basically, everyone was at risk in this episode for one reason or another (Wrecker and his head, Hunter v. Fennec, Omega could be captured… I guess that’s why “Cornered” was an apt title) and while it furthers the story it makes me worried about the danger they will encounter next as the Empire continues to take shape and things change quickly (as Hunter noted).
Nessa: I don’t like how Wrecker keeps getting knocked in the head, because it is BEYOND deliberate at this point. I’m hoping that we get something out of it one way or another… Either have Wrecker succumb to the programming (AND SAVE HIM) or have them figure out that no blow to the head can make Wrecker follow orders. It’s stressing me out; he’s such a good lad.
Staci: I was really excited to see Fennec listed as a character on this show until I saw her! It’s better to have her on your side! Seeing her come after Omega was scary. We know how good she is but we need her to be not so good right now! I don’t want Omega snatched away from our Batchers right when they are starting to bond.
We Have Questions
Anna: I would like to know who is after Omega, if they specifically contacted Fennec for this or if it was a general bounty call. I don’t think it is the Kaminoans.
Jennie: I also am wondering who hired Fennec and why they want Omega? There are plenty of great theories out there. If you have one, send it our way, we’d love to hear it!
Lauren: For all of her heightened senses, Omega seems very relaxed with Fennec even though she is technically in danger. I wonder if it’s because she sees to the core of people and believes that there is something in Fennec that can be trusted and is overall good? She does, in fact, rescue Omega from falling. I wonder if Fennec will use her skill later in a showdown with Crosshair in order to save Omega’s life once again. I could totally see that happening.
Lindsay: Who sent Fennec? We’re not getting the whole story here and I’d love to know who sent her after Omega and what her end game is. Is she just capturing her to take her home? Something worse?
Nessa: Who hired Fennec? I am beyond happy to see her, but it seemed a little intentionally vague about who hired her to get Omega. If it’s the Kaminoans who did, that seems logical, it’s whatever. But if it’s not… who cares enough about Omega to try and steal her? And why???
Staci: Will we see Fennec again? Are there other bounty hunters looking for Omega? And why do they want her? What’s so important about this clone?
Favorite Bad Batch-er
Anna: Echo! I was really happy about Echo knowing his worth, or rather that he was worth more than 2000 credits. I really enjoyed seeing more of his personality come out, and for him to have an L337 moment of leading the robots against their restraining-bolt-loving overlords.
Jennie: Can we make Clink a Batcher? No? Well then, I’m still sticking with my #1 Nerd Clone Tech. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been getting the fun storylines lately but the banter of him and Wrecker is still classic.
Lauren: For this episode, it’s Tech. He’s just so sassy! I think he’s a Capricorn.
Lindsay: In this episode, Echo. I loved how he begrudgingly played along with the droid bit, and his sass toward the actual droids who knew right away he wasn’t one of them.
Nessa: My boy Echo. He’s a trooper (ahaha) and he showed his stuff in this episode. He’s still an ARC, he’s still a soldier, and he’s got a grumpier attitude to boot. He’s been an absolute treat with each episode and I love seeing him being an absolute badass.
Staci: I have to go with Wrecker again. He has such a big personality! There were a couple of moments this week that gave me a chuckle. One was when he tells Tech to just tell him what to rip out of the engine of the ship! Skip the details, Tech! Another was when he busts into the tunnel to save Omega and he yells, “You mess with the kid, you mess with me!!!” and then Fennec knocks him out. Haha!
