The Bad Batch: A Project Stardust Roundtable (Episode 10)

Featuring Anna, Jennie, Lauren, Lindsay, Nessa, Patty, Staci, and edited by Liv

The Project Stardust team has decided to come together to have a roundtable after each episode of The Bad Batch! Each week we will be discussing the things we liked and the questions we have about this episode. In preparation for this new series, we watched the Bad Batch Arc of The Clone Wars season 7, and most excitingly, some of us were brand new to The Clone Wars! In the coming weeks, we will be discussing the things we liked and the questions we have about each episode. This week, this group made up of both Clone Wars veterans and more recent fans of Clone Force 99 will be tackling episode 10 of The Bad Batch. As such, there are spoilers—if you haven’t watched the episode yet, come back here once you have!

One Thing We Loved

Anna: Only Cid could make it mostly okay to have kid gambling!! I loved that Cid basically put Hunter in his place about leaving Omega behind.

Jennie: Cid’s nicknames for all the guys. Her character keeps giving a great comedic tone to the show the past few weeks.

Lindsay: These last couple episodes have been so stellar. I found so many things about this episode to love: Omega showing her strategy chops and impressing Cid, the winding maze the Batchers had to take for their rescue mission… It was a solid mix of action and sentiment, especially as the crew returned to Omega to find she had covered their debt with her winnings. The bonus for me? Raxus was beautiful, and as I’ve said before, new planets and people are always so exciting to me in exploring more of the Star Wars universe.

Nessa: I liked seeing how much Omega being present has altered and shifted the dynamic of the Bad Batch. It was really interesting to see in that little blip from Hunter how much the team has come to rely on her. It shows not only how much Omega has grown but how much the Bad Batch has grown, and it really gives an interesting insight into the dynamics of this little family band.

Patty: Cid is great. Cid is amazing. I would watch an entire show of just Cid dealing with various bounty hunters and smugglers. I want to have a Cid and Peli Motto team-up. In fact I may ship them. New ship: Celi. (Note from Anna: Many of us are now on the good ship Celi)

Staci: I like that it seems that we have found out what Omega’s special skill is. She’s a strategist! I know I was impressed with her escape in last week’s episode.

One Thing We Did Not Love

Anna: I wish Hunter were more understanding of Echo. He has some valid feelings and deserves their support.

Jennie: This episode seemed much more random than the others. It could be the beginning of a new arc but otherwise it was almost boring in parts.

Lindsay: I know very little about the Separatists in the larger picture, but it doesn’t seem like Echo’s concerns were really heard by the rest of his brothers in arms. I know he’s kind of the outsider in this group of outsiders, but it would have been nice to see more support and understanding of what he’s gone through, even though they had a job to do.

Nessa: Maybe this is me being a little defensive of Echo, but… I really didn’t like how Hunter and the others brushed off Echo’s concerns when it came to helping the Separatists. They were there when Echo was rescued; they saw what he went through. But they seemed to want to brush it aside as politics (and, let me tell you, as a queer person, I have heard that so many times when it comes to being around family members who have been openly homophobic, so that struck a big chord). It definitely made me frown a little to see Echo going through that.

Patty: Hunter, maybe Echo’s a little more skeptical of Separatists because he was kidnapped, experimented on, and stripped of his humanity. You know, the whole reason why you met him and how he joined the Batch to begin with? Maybe be a bit more understanding of why Echo is reasonably hesitant.

Staci: I wasn’t all that excited by this week’s mission. The bounty hunter battle is hard to follow.

We Have Questions

Anna: Will Omega meet Lando later? I would love to see them play cards together. Also, are we going to see some of the formation/main players of the Rebellion?

Jennie: How did Senator Avi Singh pay Cid when he’s been overthrown?

Lindsay: What else will we learn about the emerging Empire, and what other loyalties or long-held beliefs will be tested in the face of this new super power?

Nessa: Related to the statement about what I didn’t like—does anyone else feel like we might be building up to a blow-up or schism in the Bad Batch with Echo? Despite the amount of time he’s spent with them, despite the numerous missions they’ve been on together, it seems like there’s this growing abrasiveness between him and the others, where he keeps being brushed off or made to fall in line when he tries to express himself? I don’t know. I might be reading into it too much, but I really do wonder if we’re building up to some kind of fight.

Patty: We have the beginnings of rebel cells with Saw in the intro, the Martez sisters, and now with our new senator in hand, are we going to see more seeds of the rebellion? Am I going to get to see ultimate husband and dad, Bail Organa? ARE WE GOING TO GET TO SEE BREHA? A girl can dream.

Staci: What’s next now that they know Omega is good at strategy?

Bad Batcher of the Week

Anna: Tech. He’s just awesome and it has been WAY too long since I have given him his props.

Jennie: Goggles (Tech)! He’s like, a total genius or something!

Lindsay: That dad moment at the end of the episode clinched it for me—Hunter all the way.

Nessa: Oh, this week has to go to Omega again. She recognized her own strengths and decided to use those strengths to support her family. That’s what being a Bad Batcher is all about, isn’t it?

Patty: It’s going to go to Omega again. I am loving how she’s developing and I’m so curious to see how she will turn out (and if maybe we will see her post Bad Batch…. Perhaps in The Book of Boba Fett?)

Staci: I’m giving Standout Batcher to Omega. I love getting these bits of info on her and why she may be valuable.
